Development of optimal technology and ORC design dedicated for waste-heat recovery in ships

Project website: ORC4SHIP

Time period: July 2020 to January 2023

Funder: Co-financed by Greece and EU, Program EPAnEK

Total budget: 599,515 EUR

Short description:

The research project has as main objective the development and the optimum design of an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC), for the waste heat recovery of the marine engines’ cooling system and its conversion in electricity in order to cover the ship’s needs. Main objective of the project is to focus on shipping, while the main benefit of the proposed technology is the reduction of the ship’s fuel consumption up to 3-4%, but also the reduction of the CO₂ and other harmful emissions (NOx, SOx, etc).
