Germany has taken a major step forward in waste heat utilization: Over 3,100 companies have fulfilled their reporting obligation to the new Plattform für Abwärme (PFA – Platform for Waste Heat), identifying more than 22,000 waste heat streams totaling an impressive 223 TWh of potential.

At KCORC, we see this as a significant opportunity to identify viable applications for ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) technology to convert this untapped energy into power. KCORC recently had a productive exchange with the responsible office at BAFA (Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control ), sharing our feedback on how a comprehensive, central database could help match ORC suppliers with companies offering waste heat.

The TEHAG Committee views the PFA as a best-practice model and encourages European stakeholders to consider similar initiatives at the EU level. Let’s turn this potential into progress!
